Kevin Kline rehearsed his scenes in a normal fashion like all the other actors. He didn't start doing all that outrageous shit until the cameras were rolling. No one knew he was going to do what he did with Otto. Everyone was taken by surprise. Cleese was genuine in his remark about Klines work in the film.

Just for the record.......a fish called Wanda was absolute rubbish unworthy of Cleese at his best or any of the Pythons. I was mystified by it being so well received by the critics.
